About Jonathan
I've been a secondary maths teacher for over three years and have been working in schools and tutoring for five. I've taught foundation and higher GCSE, including the new specification for both Edexcel and AQA, A Level and Further Maths A Level, as well as STEP and AEA classes.

Supportive and engaging maths tutor with 6 years experience.
I'm a BSc (Hons) qualified mathematician offering friendly one-to-one tuition. With over three years of experience as a secondary school teacher, teaching up to A Level (including Further Maths), as well as many hours of private tuition, I am well versed in offering all the support necessary for students preparing to take exams, making sure they have a solid understanding of the subject.
I always offer a tailored service depending on the individual needs of the student and their current ability. I believe in ensuring that my students gain confidence by providing challenges that are set at the correct level and being positive, encouraging and flexible in my approach.
I try to encourage as deep as possible an understanding of the way that maths works rather than simply teaching a set of methods with no meaning. This helps the knowledge take root and last for much longer. I often find that, when someone finds a topic tricky, it is because they are missing an essential building block so I use careful questioning to establish when this is the case and work from there.
I also think it is very important to continually return to topics and so as I get to know a student better, I will bring in quick questions about areas we have covered in previous weeks to check how much they can remember.
