About Adam
My name is Adam, a student at Lancaster University who is interested in teaching English Literature. I have a passion for the subject, but I understand not everyone feels this way. I will make it my job to help you, not only to perform well in English, but to gain some enjoyment from the subject as well and learn skills you can carry with you into meaningful employment.
I am someone who has specialised in English for the best part of seven years, and someone who has a wide understanding of the subject. I feel there are very few tutors who will combine a passion for the subject with an understanding of why everyone might not like it to start with. My job is to help you find your strengths and weaknesses in English, become aware of them, and work to make them better.

As a student at Lancaster University who has experience in tutoring, I am eminently qualified as someone who combines the knowledge of a degree at one of the top universities in the country with an understanding of how the current national syllabus works as someone who left school less than a decade ago.
My lessons are configured around nurturing interest in the subject of English Literature - I strongly believe that encouragement is crucial to progress.
Many students find themselves worn down by the unforgiving, impersonal classroom experience. Literature should be a subject that teachers explore with their students, but sadly this does not happen as often as we would like. In my experience, many teachers in education are happy to gravitate towards the more naturally skilled and enthusiastic without considering those students who may feel alienated by their methods.
My goal is to engage with children who may lack the confidence for Literature, or even feel bored by it. By engaging with them one to one, I will be able to learn what area of Literature they study with, and help them to attain not only good grades but a lasting enthusiasm for the subject.
My lesson lengths are flexible - I am available for as long as I am needed per session, up to a maximum of four hours. Typically, I would advise lessons being between ninety minutes and two hours long.
My first lesson will concentrate on two things - establishing the student's source of difficulty with the subject, and gaining an understanding of the texts the student is particularly struggling with.
From that point, I will be able to plan an exhaustive itinerary of lessons that will help the student to reach their potential and improve their attitude towards English as a subject.
My lessons are aimed at a wide range of students, from Key Stage 2 all the way up to GCSE.
