About Martina-Carolin
A bit about me: I hold a BA in Sociology/Penal Law and Educational Science (with a focus on Adult Education), and an MA in International Criminology. I was honoured to receive a scholarship for my exceptional academic achievements at the University of Hamburg, which led me to study Criminology at MDX University in London.
Alongside my academic qualifications, I have hands-on experience as a Research Assistant at the Criminology Department at the University of Tübingen (Germany), as well as working for several years as a successful Freelance Social and Market Researcher. This combination of theory and practice has given me in-depth expertise in Qualitative and Quantitative Research Design, which I am eager to share with my students.
Fluent in English and holding a TEFL certificate, I can also help you with language skills alongside criminological and sociological content.
Whether you're preparing for GCSEs, A-levels, or need help with academic coursework, I can guide you through a wide range of topics, including:
Education Theory and Research Methodology
Culture & Identity
Social Stratification & Differentiation
Theory of Crime & Deviance
Criminology/Sociology of Youth (and Disorder)
Drugs & Crime
The Media, Sociology of Technology & Risk Society
Cybersecurity and Cyber Safe Behaviour
With my diverse background and experience, I look forward to helping you refine your skills, deepen your understanding, and excel in these fascinating areas.

My Teaching Methodology:
My teaching approach is student-centered, flexible, and designed to cater to your individual needs and learning style. Drawing from my experience as a researcher and educator, I integrate a blend of theoretical insights and practical application to make complex topics more accessible and engaging.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material to reinforce retention, followed by an interactive exploration of new concepts—whether that’s delving into criminological/sociological theories or examining the nuances of language. I use real-world examples, case studies, and interactive discussions to bring the material to life, while constantly ensuring that each student’s unique interests and goals are incorporated into the learning process.
I also encourage active participation and critical thinking by using research-based tasks, thought-provoking questions, and discussions that challenge you to apply what you've learned.
Whether you’re preparing for exams, working on a specific assignment, or simply looking to deepen your understanding of a subject, my goal is to provide personalized guidance that not only helps you achieve your academic goals but also fosters a genuine passion for the subject matter.
I’m here to make sure you feel empowered, supported, and fully equipped to succeed.

I attended multiple German bootcamps with Martina to prepare for my IGCSE exams and I can honestly say they made all the difference. The sessions were structured, exam-focused, and incredibly practical. Martina gave insider tips from her experience as an examiner, and the exercises closely mirrored what we faced in the real exams. Thanks to her guidance and the intensive practice, I achieved a 9 in my final exams. I would highly recommend her bootcamps to any student aiming for top grades!
I didn’t have German offered at my school, so I worked with Martina one-on-one for a full year to prepare for my A-Level. Her lessons were completely tailored, structured, and results-driven, and she provided constant guidance and support throughout. Having her come as a visiting examiner to my school added extra confidence, as I knew exactly what the examiners were looking for. Thanks to her expertise, I achieved an A* in the A-Level exam. I cannot recommend her highly enough for anyone serious about exam success.
Tina was incredible in how she guided my daughter for her GCSE preparations. I saw a marked improvement in my Daughter’s confidence and ability to master the language. Though Tina was asked to support speaking only she also helped with grammar. Thank you Tina

Tina taught my daughter in year 11 to make up gaps caused by a high turnover of school teachers. She is an excellent and hard working tutor who made the subject fun while building confidence in spoken German and filling vocab and grammar gaps. Tina was a flexible teacher who adapted her style and coverage (oral, listening, reading etc) as needed. My daughter’s German strengthened considerably but, just as importantly, her confidence and her enjoyment of the language improved at the same time. I would highly recommend Tina as a tutor.
Tina was an excellent German tutor for our teenage son. He was initially reluctant to have tutorials and was quite behind for his German GCSE but with Tina's enthusiasm and skilled teaching his attitude changed completely and he started to enjoy German. He made huge progress and went up 4 grades in just 6 months. He benefitted also from the speaking parties he had with Tina, who is a native German speaker. Tina was always very well prepared and organised for each lesson and always punctual. Our son made huge progress with Tina and I believe she has a gift for teaching.
I strongly recommend Tina as a German tutor.Tina has fine tuned her sessions to my language level and objectives. I'm confident this will help turbocharge my progress.
She's also a great conversationalist, which is what language is all about after all.I'm English - My boyfriend is German - we live in London, he speaks English ridiculously well, but his family in Germany don't speak english at all.
After more than 6 months of lessons with Tina, I can hand on heart say I understand and can speak more German now, I'm not fluent but it's coming (to be honest I could definitely practise more at home) but when we visit them now I can at least understand the drift of the conversation and have confidence to try to speak to them, my vocab gets bigger every week.
Tina is easy going and fun to hang out with - she plans the lessons effortlessly, ensuring you're learning what's relevant to you (where you'll be using the language and what for). German is a crazy complex language grammatically and can feel overwhelming sometimes but she makes sure we move one step at a time, spending more time in places we need to.
Great balance of reading, writing and conversation.
Can't recommend her enough.
Thank you Tina :)I have been a student of Ms Tina for almost over a year. My German has definitely improved with her help.
Particularly, she can spot your weaknesses and provide you with clear guidance on how to tackle them effectively.
I would recommend her to anyone. (Professional or children)Tina is really a great tutor. She helps improve many aspects of your language ability (writing, reading, and speaking), and tailors the lessons and materials to meet your specific level and needs. Her lessons are quite engaging, so what could be difficult and tedious is more fun. I would recommend her highly to improve your German language abilities.
I have been having German lessons with Tina for the last few months and have improved my German considerably in this time. Friendly and organised, bringing worksheets along which fit to my current progress.
