About Iskandar Hakimi
I am an active competitive chess player and dedicated coach with years of experience guiding students from foundational moves to tournament success. Beyond competing in university and open tournaments, I actively coach school teams for MSSD competitions and organize competitive chess events, giving me a deep understanding of what it takes to excel under real game pressure.
My coaching style is patient, encouraging and structured. I believe chess is more than just memorizing lines as it is an incredible tool for developing critical thinking, disciplined focus, resilience and emotional maturity. Whether you are taking your very first steps on the board or looking to sharpen your competitive edge, I am committed to supporting your growth at every stage.

My lessons focus on building strong board awareness, tactical sharpness and strategic understanding through an interactive, step-by-step approach. Rather than relying on pure memorization, I help students understand the reasoning behind every move, whether exploring key opening concepts, middle-game plans, or essential endgame techniques.
Each session typically runs for 60 minutes. We begin with a brief review and tactical puzzle warm-up, dive into a core conceptual lesson, and analyze practical games or live sparring sessions to immediately apply what was taught.
Lessons are suitable for beginners learning the fundamentals, school players preparing for tournaments like MSSD and intermediate players aiming to elevate their competitive play. Every lesson plan is customized to each student's current skill level and personal goals.
