About Ronny

Hi, my name is Ronny, and I am a junior at Stanford University, majoring in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and minoring in Math. My academic excellence in high school earned me recognition in the top 1% of my class and as an AP Scholar with Distinction, averaging 5 on 12 AP tests. I've received several scholarships, including the QuestBridge National College Match, Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship, Elks MVS Scholarship, and the Burger King Scholarship. With 6+ years of tutoring experience, I've helped students from elementary to college with math, including AP exams and standardized tests such as ACT and SAT. As an essay writer and tutor, I'm also here to support you in your college admissions journey. I'll help you enhance your essays, making them unique and appealing to colleges. I'll guide you every step of the way, from brainstorming to finalizing your college activities. I have a deep understanding of the essay-writing process, and I'll teach you strategies to stand out to admissions officers. My past students have been accepted into prestigious schools, like Stanford, Cal, and USC and I'm confident I can do the same for you. In addition to essay writing, I also have experience with standardized test preparation (ACT and SAT). I've helped several students significantly improve their scores, and I'll share my techniques and tips to help you ace these tests. Tutoring math is a passion of mine as I find joy in helping others succeed in a subject that can be challenging. My one-on-one approach allows for personalized teaching, leading to deeper understanding and better results. I'm dedicated to helping you achieve your goals, so let's get started!

I like to first get an understanding of where the student is in their comprehension of the concept or idea they're struggling with and then work with what they already know to explain the concept better, and then evaluate them to see if their understanding improved or if we should take a different approach.

Find out more about Ronny

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in tutoring began during high school when I found joy in helping my classmates understand challenging concepts, especially in STEM subjects like math and computer science. As I progressed in my academic journey at Stanford, I realized how impactful one-on-one learning can be in boosting confidence and improving outcomes. This inspired me to formalize my tutoring efforts and share my knowledge with others through Superprof.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in mathematics, computer science, and test preparation. I particularly enjoy discussing problem-solving techniques and exploring creative approaches to challenging questions, whether it's calculus or algorithm design. While I appreciate all aspects of learning, I find repetitive memorization less engaging than fostering critical thinking and application.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my older brother made a lasting impression on me. His ability to break down complex topics into simple, relatable terms made learning enjoyable and inspiring. He taught me the importance of patience and adaptability in teaching-qualities I strive to embody in my tutoring.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great tutor needs patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to different learning styles. They must also be approachable and foster a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Finally, a good tutor should install confidence in their students, empowering them to tackle challenges independently.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During a group study session in pre-calculus, one of my peers struggled with trigonometry. I came up with a creative analogy using the concept of a Ferris wheel to explain sine and cosine functions, and their understanding clicked instantly. That moment reaffirmed my belief in the power of tailored teaching methods and creativity in education.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges in mathematics and computer science is overcoming the intimidation factor. Even I have struggled with moments of self-doubt when facing tough problems. I've learned that breaking complex topics into smaller, manageable steps helps me-and my students-build confidence and mastery over time.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is a huge passion of mine because it allows me to inspire others and see their progress firsthand. Beyond teaching, I'm deeply interested in entrepreneurship and community building, which tie into my love for empowering others to succeed and create impact.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

I combine my academic expertise with a student-first approach, ensuring that each session is tailored to the individual's needs. My goal is to make learning not just effective but enjoyable and to build a connection with my students that motivates them to excel. Additionally, my commitment to continuous improvement ensures I bring fresh perspectives and methods to every session.
