About Jessica

I bring years of experience as a tutor, specializing in working with 6-year-olds on the autism spectrum and students with significant behavioral challenges. I understand the importance of creating a focused, supportive environment where you can feel comfortable and confident while learning. My approach is built on patience, empathy, and professionalism, ensuring each session is tailored to meet your unique needs and learning style. Whether it’s mastering a concept or managing challenges, I am here to guide you every step of the way, helping you succeed at your own pace.

About the lesson

When I plan a lesson using direct instruction with manipulatives, I start by setting a clear learning objective and selecting manipulatives that align with the concept I want to teach. I introduce the lesson with a concise explanation, using these hands-on tools to visually and physically demonstrate the idea. I carefully model each step, ensuring that my students understand the connection between the manipulative and the abstract concept. As I move into guided practice, I ask questions and offer immediate feedback to address any misconceptions. Once my student shows confidence, I encourage them to work independently while I monitor their progress. I always wrap up with a reflective discussion to connect the hands-on experience back to the broader learning objective, reinforcing their understanding and boosting their confidence. If time allows, I love pairing literature with the overall theme, there are books for everything!
