About Jennifer
With over 15 years of experience in education, I bring a deep passion for helping learners of all abilities succeed. I hold a Master’s degree in Special Education and am certified in Special Education (K–12), Core Subjects (EC–6), and as a Dyslexia Specialist. My background includes working with diverse student populations, including those with learning differences, and supporting both children and adults in reaching their academic goals. My Approach as a Tutor and How I Share My Knowledge
Teaching Method and Techniques
My tutoring approach is centered on individualized learning, guided discovery, and building confidence through scaffolded support. I begin by identifying each student’s current level of understanding, strengths, and areas for growth. I use a mix of direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, and real-world examples to engage students and deepen understanding. To promote active learning, I integrate techniques such as questioning strategies, visual aids, graphic organizers, and hands-on practice. I also incorporate formative assessments and regular feedback to adapt my instruction to student needs.
A Typical Lesson Plan
A typical tutoring session follows a flexible structure to maximize engagement and learning:
Warm-Up (5–10 min): A quick review or check-in to assess understanding from the previous session or activate prior knowledge.
Mini-Lesson (10–15 min): Direct instruction of a specific concept using visuals, models, or anchor charts.
Guided Practice (15–20 min): We work through problems or tasks together, with gradually released responsibility.
Independent Practice (10–15 min): The student applies learning independently while I provide support as needed.
Reflection & Wrap-Up (5–10 min): We discuss what was learned, identify any remaining questions, and preview next steps.

What sets me apart is my ability to form strong relationships with students and create a safe, encouraging environment for learning. I prioritize communication and tailor my instruction to match each student’s learning style, pace, and interests. I also emphasize growth mindset strategies to help students overcome academic anxiety and build resilience. My background in education allows me to support not only content knowledge but also learning strategies, executive functioning skills, and test preparation.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for elementary and middle school students (grades K–6), including general education learners, students with special needs, and English language learners. I provide support in subjects such as reading, writing, math, and science, as well as test prep (e.g., STAAR, MAP). I have particular experience supporting students with learning differences (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD) and those in inclusive or ECSE classrooms.
