About Ana
I'm a native Spanish speaker from Venezuela and I have a BA in Political Science with a minor in Spanish. I was in graduate school for two years, studying Hispanic Studies. I worked as a Spanish tutor and shadowed a professor's Spanish 1101 class during my first year. I taught a Spanish 1101 class by myself during the summer and fall semesters. I’ve been doing private tutoring, teaching students of all levels and ages since August 2023. Currently I'm a graduate student at East Carolina University, studying Hispanic Studies online.

The best way to learn a language is by using it. I began learning English when I was around 4 or 5 years old, and I struggled initially. However, I improved through hard work and by doing things I enjoyed in the language. As a teacher, my approach involves exercises, vocabulary practice, short writings, listening to audios or music, and engaging in conversations. I'll provide feedback and not just point out errors but also explain why and suggest alternatives. I'll give you explanations and exercises via email or printed materials. Grammar is important, but it's meant to become second nature so you don't need to overthink it. Simultaneously, you can do things you like, such as listening to Spanish songs or reading a beloved book in Spanish. I offer the first lesson for free to create a lesson plan, and I'll assign homework that goes beyond grammar.

Ana was excellent and extremely helpful. I met her during college, and she helped me pass my Spanish classes and my professors noticed that I seemed to be ahead of my classmates in skills such as pronunciation, conjugation and vocabulary all thanks to her! She's very knowledgeable and understood that my needs were different than other students. As a native speaker who was bilingual at a young age, she has the perfect background to teach Spanish to English speakers.
