About Yesenia

Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, I earned a bachelor's degree in Modern Languages from the University of Atlántico and a law degree from the University of La Gran Colombia. I also held a master's degree in Literary Studies from the National University of Colombia. As a doctoral student, my research interests focus on Afro-Latin American literature and gender studies. My creative work includes the poetry books “Anoche soñé con cocodrilos” and “Ensueño negro del África mía," and two children's literature books: "Mamá Avó" and "¿En dónde estás Masmelo?".

About the lesson

I'm very flexible with my teaching methods, trying to adapt my class to my student's needs. I emphasize a communicative approach, in order to get the most out of every lesson. You will be really delighted with learning Spanish. My goal as a teacher is to motivate my students to learn and find meaning in what they do in every class. I strive to show them the benefits of learning a foreign language and the advantages of bilingualism. But above all, I try they find a connection between what they learn and what they do.

Perfect! Patience is number one thing that is important to me when learning something new. I sometimes have a hard time pronouncing words so learning a new language can be stressful and scary at times. Yesenia was very gentle with me and guiding me along the way. I love how nice she is and can't wait to continue lessons with her and would recommend to anyone in their beginning stages with learning Spanish.

Perfect! Yesenia is a great teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone learning Spanish. She’s very patient and has great resources to use for studying after a lesson. Yesenia uses online lessons and practice exercises and videos to teach a topic. You get a lot of practice speaking Spanish and using what was learned in the lesson in a conversational manner. When it comes to scheduling lessons, she’s willing to work with your schedule.

"I've had the pleasure of knowing Yesenia for several years now, and I can confidently say that she is an exceptional Spanish teacher. I've taken lessons with her myself and have witnessed her patience, enthusiasm, and ability to tailor her teaching style to meet individual needs. I called her “Amiga.” Yesenia is a dedicated and passionate Superprof who genuinely cares about her students' progress. Her lessons are engaging, interactive, and tailored to each student's learning style. I highly recommend Yesenia to anyone looking to learn or improve their Spanish skills. She is a valuable asset to the Superprof community!"

Yesenia is a vibrant and inspiring teacher - great balance of pushing you to improve but also sensitive to where you are as a learner
She customized my tutoring experience to how I learn best e.g. I am a dancer so hearing Spanish with music helps me retain the language -Yesenia went above and beyond by finding lessons related to songs - and even played with dance movements as I will be teaching choreography in Colombia soon - I am confident she will find a way to help you learn Spanish that suits you ! If you are more cerebral - she will teach you in a more academic way - as she teaches at a university as well -
Enjoy the journey of learning a new language!
