About Shubhlaxmi
Two graduate degrees are not the easiest on your self-confidence while you're in them. But, when you're done and looking back at the sheer madness of the past months (or years, depending on your program), you realize how much you have grown. I have had to push myself constantly to improve my writing and to have a clearer and sharper analytical mind. I know from experience that these things don't come easy, and when they do, they aren't always at the top of their game.
I hope to help you develop the confidence in your own abilities to think, evaluate, criticize and express what you feel about the things you encounter in your academic and non-academic life. There is so much joy to be encountered in works of literature and anthropology, and I hope to help you fall in love with reading and writing in the way that I have.
I am, at best, just a nerd who wants to inspire other young minds to be bold, creative, and passionate about what they think and believe in.

I believe in encouraging students to find their voices and be creative, while also keeping their writing up to the mark of high-quality academic work.
I will spend the first few lessons familiarizing myself with the student's interests and needs, and then design regular reading and writing assignments that either contribute to the larger thesis or project they are working on, or give them practice to gain both confidence and inspiration. We shall read sections of academic and non-academic works to understand different approaches to analysis and creative expression, and to help locate our ideas within larger bodies of literature.
During my most recent Masters degree at the University of Chicago, I was exposed to the rigorous standards of analytical thinking and writing that academics and young scholars hold themselves to. I know how intimidating it can be to young students, who have fresh and innovative ideas but may not feel confident enough to put them to the page in an impactful way. I hope my individualized lesson plans and qualitative evaluation of each assignment help students identify and build on their strengths as writers.
I am open to work with students at the undergraduate level, and also to high school students looking to write impactful papers that will contribute to their grades and college applications.
