About Kanan
I am a passionate software engineer with over 17 years of programming experience and more than 5 years of professional app development expertise. My journey with coding began at the age of 12, crafting solutions in Pascal and C to compete in programming Olympiads. I continued to build my technical foundation by developing CLI tools in C, which sparked a lifelong passion for technology and problem-solving. I hold a degree in Civil Engineering from University College London (UCL), where I graduated in 2016, as well as an MBA. Before transitioning fully into software development, I spent six years working as a Civil Engineer and Project Manager in the UK, earning my Chartered Civil Engineer status. This unique combination of technical, management, and problem-solving skills allows me to bring a well-rounded perspective to software engineering. I have a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, complemented by proficiency in modern programming languages and tools, including TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Go, C, SQL, and NoSQL. I am a strong advocate for Test-Driven Development and excel at building robust, scalable applications for diverse clients. My teamwork experience and focus on delivering value ensure effective collaboration and meaningful impact on every project. Originally from Azerbaijan, I have lived in the UK for over 10 years. I am fluent in English, Turkish, Azerbaijani, and Russian, which helps me connect with people from different backgrounds. My diverse experiences, both technical and managerial, shape my teaching philosophy: to make programming accessible, practical, and empowering for learners from all walks of life.

Each lesson has a structure suited to the topic, your needs, and your progress. Each lesson ends with addressing your questions, reviewing challenges, and outlining exercises and future steps tailored to your goals. Lessons typically run 60-120 minutes. We focus on: - Computer science theory and core principles - Clean, efficient coding with real-world examples - Core programming concepts and best practices - Custom project development - Code review and debugging methods - Testing and documentation - Software architecture - High-level concepts for holistic software engineering understanding I teach all skill levels - from complete beginners to experienced developers wanting to level up or switch technologies. My teaching draws from 5+ years of software engineering experience across frontend, backend, databases, and APIs.
