About Adas
I was brought up in a very musical family and learning the guitar and piano was second nature to me. I quickly started to compose music when I started playing - quite evidently I was a composer! However, that's where the story turns sour, as I wasn't nurtured to play the music I wanted to play and I was forced to learn grades and to learn pieces I had no real passion for. For a good 8 years I hated going to piano lessons and thought the guitar was more my instrument. The good news is - you never stop learning! And I continued on my own terms.
I started my learning journey when I stopped being taught formally. I was inspired by the jazz pianists out there who learned through "playing" and not through "practicing". Granted, I had a hefty boost through the years I'd "studied" the piano (though half heartedly), however, I found that after a good 9 years of learning, I could play a grand total of 3 pieces. Simply put - I wanted to compose and improvise and I felt completely powerless to achieve this goal.
Largely through teaching myself composition and improvisation, I clawed my way into the realms of jazz piano. Today, we can retrace my steps together, and I can teach you how to learn the piano in a way I was never taught how to. With me as your teacher, you can be sure that we will learn what *you* want to learn and I will gear my lessons around that.

Before your first lesson we'll establish what kind of strategy for learning we need to employ and tailor the lessons around your specific hopes and aspirations.
I like to teach the basics of reading notes, but without the shackling dependence on them to play anything. My priority, however, is to teach you how to navigate the keyboard with ease and fluency through learning chords, progressions, scales (lead work) and music theory in tandem with dexterity and hand separation exercises to enable you to play any tune you like.
I don't concentrate on sight reading; I like to teach students how to improvise and compose their very own pieces as well as learn their favourite tunes.
I teach for 30 mins - 1 hour to all age groups at a beginner to intermediate level, however I can impart a great deal of knowledge to advanced learners who only learned the classical method.
