About Sam
I graduated from Vassar College with a B.A. in Psychology and Music Composition. These two disciplines have intertwined to give me a deep love for creative mentorship. I have been a Teaching Artist for kids who stutter, a Creative Writing and Songwriting instructor, and have worked in a children’s hospital. I have been playing guitar, piano, and writing songs since the age of six, and performing original pieces since the age of nine. In addition to writing, recording, and performing original songs and albums, I studied jazz guitar and music theory in my teenage years and composed for orchestra in college.

I seek to make music fun — not a chore. I tailor lessons to your needs and goals - such as your favorite songs, skills you want to nail, or that one chord that you just can't get. I offer private lessons, traveling to your home, in:
- Beginner & Intermediate Guitar
- Beginner Piano
- Songwriting & Composition
In addition to key skills and foundations of an instrument, I also incorporate basic music theory and musicality training. The goal is to give the student a lifetime musical mindset which can lend itself to improvisation, composition, and transposition, not just the memorization of an instrument.
My rate reflects the level of individualized curriculum and integration of music theory that will set you up with a lifetime musical mindset.
