About Aga

I am a fully qualified Secondary Maths teacher. QTS/PGCE Secondary Mathematics. Currently teaching in a London secondary school. I obtained my qualifications from Roehampton University, London. What drew me to study maths and see a future teaching is polar to why I came to love maths and teaching it. Maths seemed to be organised and have a definitive end point: follow the steps and solve the problem, unlike writing a paper that could be edited and improved infinitely or analysing text that could be looked at from an abundant amount of perspectives. Maths follows rules. And that is what I did throughout almost all of my maths courses, and continue to do now - learned the rules and applied them. For this reason, maths is the language of the sciences and the universe.

Through my wealth of experience, I have developed a strategy adapted to help you excel in your mathematical skills, from improving personal mathematical ability and confidence to GCSE exam practice and Olympiads. My lessons start with quick mixed-topic starter questions to get you into the mathematical "zone" and allow me to assess your understanding. My lesson structure is divided into 3 parts: I do, we do, and you do. I introduce you to a new topic by modelling a couple of examples involving a new skill, making sure I break them down into small steps for better comprehension. At this stage, I always ask for any questions related to the examples given. Then, we do similar questions together with my support. Once you are more confident, I will move on to individual practice under timed conditions (solo). Next, we go through the answers together, clarifying any misconceptions. At the end of my lesson, you will solve a few diagnostic questions so I can assess your understanding of the newly learnt topic/skills. Considering students’ needs, I always prepare homework with carefully selected questions at a suitable ability level and a stretch and challenge question. Although mental arithmetic is a fantastic skill that quickens with time, maths is not magic, so giving me a random number answer will not, unfortunately, earn you a mark. I will motivate you to develop good habits by showing every line of your working process, so you will have a tried-and-tested stratagem before taking future formal examinations where you gain marks for working out. I take pride in teaching KS3 students and cultivating their love for maths from the early stages. My current students have been enjoying my lessons and my teaching style. Here are a couple of Gratitude Cards given to me with my students’ statements: “Thank you for teaching us maths wholeheartedly. I really enjoy being in your lessons. From: E.” “Thank you for being an amazing maths teacher, and you have been really kind to me. I hope great things happen to you. From: M.” “Thank you for teaching us maths almost every day of the week. You have really made me enjoy maths. From Z.” “Thank you so much for always using so much time and effort teaching us math. A.” “Thank you for helping me with maths. From N.” I will make it my mission to guide and support your mathematical development. I hope to hear from you!
