About Rebecca
I have over 10 years experience of teaching, which incorporates tutoring work one to one, in groups, as well as classroom teaching in secondary schools. The majority of the students that I have tutored have been in their GCSE years. Through regular tutoring sessions I have helped students reach or exceed their GCSE target grades. I undertook my PGCE secondary school maths teaching qualification at King's College London, which focused heavily on research driven methods to deepen students' mathematical understanding.
In particular, I am a great believer in the mastery approach for teaching mathematics. This approach enables a more thorough conceptual understanding of mathematical principles. Being guided by a deeper understanding, rather than a knowledge based primarily upon rote learning, students develop greater confidence and ability to approach less familiar problems. This is particularly important for learners today, with the most recent changes to the GCSE exams incorporating questions that are posed within less familiar contexts.
The most rewarding part of teaching and tutoring for me is boosting students confidence and enthusiasm for mathematics, enabling students to see their great potential.

My passion for mathematics and for being creative shines through in my lessons. By allowing space for creativity we learn new concepts and develop our understanding most effectively. Not only is the process enjoyable but also it enables our minds to engage in a way that is most receptive to learning.
I also teach for mastery, being a believer that depth of understanding is fundamental for long term progress and success in examinations. To do this I like to use a variety of visual representations and draw on real life examples, shaped around the preferred learning style and experiences of each student.

Rebecca’s been tutoring me in GCSE maths and she’s honestly been a lifesaver. I used to find loads of it really confusing, but she gives me practice questions after each session and takes the time to explain where I went wrong without ever making me feel stupid. My marks have improved so much and I’m feeling way less stressed about my exams now. Couldn’t recommend her enough!
Rebecca has been working with my son for the past few months after a friend put us in touch.
What I really rate about her is that she genuinely invests the time in him. She sets him proper homework after each session to reinforce what they've done, and then she actually sits through it with him the following week, going over his mistakes and making sure he properly gets the hang of things instead of just memorising answers to tick a box.
Just recently he was getting really stressed about a topic he'd done quite badly on in mock test. Rebecca tailored his homework specifically around those weak spots, went through it all bit by bit with him until the penny dropped, and he ended up smashing the retake the following week.
