Robert is a well-qualified candidate having an Honours Degree from the University of Surrey. He has shown excellent subject knowledge both in lesson planning and in discussions about developing approaches to teaching and learning. He has been observing and teaching across two key stages on the course and is ready to take on responsibility for the progress of pupils of all ages and in examination classes. He is making excellent progress.
Robert sets high expectations in the classroom and creates inventive yet rigorous resources, he asks good questions and is consistently teaching lessons that engage the pupils and challenge them to think for themselves. It has been clear that he is able to take on advice quickly from both his mentor and other class teachers in the school to develop his understanding and skills. In the lessons I have observed with KS3 and KS4 classes, Robert had created a very positive and calm learning environment, with excellent use of time and pace. His teaching presence is authoritative and he builds very good relationships with pupils with his pleasant personality.
In terms of interpersonal skills, Robert communicates well on placement, and has established very good working relationships with both staff and his peers at the university. He has submitted his assignments at Masters level which were well-written showing the ability to think through significant learning challenges in an insightful way. He is already a good team player; always very modest and willing to take advice. Yet he is also willing to take on responsibility in a manner suggesting leadership potential too.
He completed a DBS procedure on joining the course and I am completely satisfied he is a suitable
person to work with children. His attendance and punctuality at Roehampton has been excellent.
I recommend him without reservation.
