In the previous lesson or prior to the lesson, I will ask the student if they have anything that they would like to cover in particular in the lesson so I can prepare adequately for the lesson. Within the lesson, we would go over the key concepts of the topic chosen and I will use mini quizzes and get the student to explain those concepts back to me to make sure that they have a good grasp of the content before moving onto exam questions. Then I would show the student how they should go about doing an exam question regarding that topic, showing them the mark scheme and relevant marking points that are important to remember. Then I would give the student exam questions to complete independently to test their abilities and I will help wherever they need it. I am also always open to feedback so if the student feels they would benefit from a different approach then I am willing to give it a go to ensure the student benefits from the lesson as much as possible. Depending on the specific needs of the student, we would focus more on content or more on practising questions and then we would gradually increase the amount of practice questions we do as this makes sure the student is confident in application and hitting all the marking points to get the best grades. Typically a lesson should last from one hour to 90 minutes depending on the amount of content and the length or variation of exam questions for that specific topic. I have a year of experience as a tutor and many 5 star reviews about how my tutoring method has helped students increase grades significantly and become more confident in their subject. I achieve 8s and 9s in GCSE and all A* in A-level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I am an Edinburgh medical student so understand the application process and what medical schools tend to look for so I can support students in UCAT preparation and medical school preparation. I teach KS3, GCSE and A-level students in Maths and Sciences. I have also supported students through the Access to Higher Education course for medicine so I can help pupils part of that course too as I am aware of the structure and what counts as a Distinction, Merit etc.
