Each lesson will be tailored to what you/ your child wishes to work on.
Common things include writing, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary and spelling.
1. We start our lesson by reviewing the previous week's writing homework that students work on throughout the week. This includes which sections can be improved, how to improve, new ideas to research and include and corrections on spelling, grammar and structure.
2. Next we move onto the week's reading, I choose texts from a variety of writing styles including articles, news report, autobiography, advertisement, infographic, speech etc. on various topics eg, technology, education, environment, traveling, science... This ensures students not only develop their English abilities but also become more knowledgeable about the world, which helps with reading comprehension and writing in more depth.
3. During this reading I work with students to identify the structure ie, the flow of the author's ideas and main points, the text type ie, what are the conventions eg, news reports have an inverse triangle structure and the language techniques and why the author uses them. My goal is for students to understand from a writer's point of view so they can apply these language and techniques to their own writing.
During this part for students wanting to work on vocabulary, I will highlight all unknown words which students will learn and spell over the week and be tested on the next lesson. For spelling students will not just memorize the word but know how to use it in different tenses and sentences.
4. After reading an example text type eg, news report students will start to draft and write their own version on a subject I specifically pick so students can independently research and gain more insights on. This will then be completed for homework.
The more advanced activity once students have worked through all text types and are confident in writing in every format, we will start learning how to write analytical paragraphs, picking out language techniques, explaining why the author uses them, and what effects they have on the reader. To further push a student to develop analytical thinking abilities.
5. At the end of each lesson homework will be set for students to do. This can include comprehension questions from the reading in the lesson, writing homework, spelling practice or analytical paragraphs.
Using this system my students have improved dramatically with no extra outside tutoring or need to buy any English workbooks.
I can also tutor specifically for AS English where I will make sure each student understands the genres and text types that can be asked in the exam. I will then ask students to write many practice essays and provide feedback and improvement helping with their analytical skills and writing abilities.

My child has improved so much since starting these lessons. The sessions are really structured but still focus on what they need help with each week.
I like how they go through homework properly and then practise reading and writing different text types. It’s helped a lot with their confidence and understanding.
Definitely recommend for anyone looking for English tutoring.I met Amber using this site and I have to say I was very impressed by her teaching methods and it really improved my little Billy's english at an astonishing rate.
Amber’s lessons are highly structured and purposeful. Each week builds on previous work, so feedback is actually applied rather than forgotten. Instead of simply correcting mistakes, she pushes students to develop ideas, improve structure, and understand how writing can be strengthened. This approach has led to clear improvement in writing quality, vocabulary, and comprehension.
What sets Amber apart is her focus on teaching students how texts work from a writer’s perspective. Through varied readings and guided analysis, students learn how to organise ideas and use language effectively in their own writing. The progress has been consistent and long-term, with increased confidence not only in English but across other subjects as well.Amber's teaching approach is both highly systematic and exceptionally dedicated. She focuses not only on the child's grammar and vocabulary, but more importantly teaches them how to comprehend text structure, authorial intent, and how to articulate their own thoughts. Over the past few months, the child's writing depth and reading comprehension have shown marked improvement, and they now approach homework in other subjects with greater confidence. I highly recommend this teacher!!

Amber 的教学方式非常系统,也非常用心。她不仅关注孩子的语法和词汇,更重要的是教孩子如何理解文章结构、作者意图以及如何表达自己的想法。几个月下来,孩子的写作深度和阅读理解能力都有明显提升,而且在其他科目的作业中也更加自信。非常推荐老师!!Before tutoring, I didn’t really know how to improve my writing. Amber shows me exactly where I can go further and how to do it. Learning how different text types work has made writing feel structured instead of confusing. I’m more confident and my school feedback has noticeably improved. I fully recommend Amber as a tutor!
