About Olivia
Hi, my name is Olivia and I am looking to tutor students from GCSE to A level in Biology, Chemistry and/or Maths over the October half term period.
I have recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters in Biochemistry. I achieved a high 2.1 overall (68.5%) and in particular, a high first (75%) in my final year research project. Throughout my degree, I gained a more advanced knowledge of essential concepts in STEM A levels, including: molecular and cellular biology, biological chemistry, maths and statistics, organic chemistry, basic thermodynamics and quantum mechanics.
I also obtained the highest marks in my school year for mathematics, chemistry and biology for my A-levels, with all 3 being A*s.
Last year I tutored two students, both twice a week. For one student who required teaching in GCSE Chemistry, I took them through AQA past papers to prepare them for their mock exam. I taught the other student A level Chemistry and Maths, mostly through discussing concepts and going through example questions (respectively). I thoroughly enjoyed teaching these subjects and engaging with the students. It was especially rewarding seeing their knowledge and interest in the subject progress in each successive lesson.

I begin my classes with asking how my student learns best and then work from there, since different teaching styles will suit different pupils. I also ask what particular areas in each subject they would like to focus on during our lessons.
They might prefer working on problems based on the topic alone and then learning from improvements during classes. In this case, prior to the lesson I would set the student a few problems or an essay to do and then send to me the day before. During the class, I would go through any corrections and form a discussion around the topic to gauge what the student has learnt.
If the student prefers to be taught the information more directly, I would prepare these problems or essay questions for us to then work through them together and discuss them during the lessons. A combination of both.
Dependent on what subject areas they have chosen to focus on, I will also recommend them various textbooks and websites that they can use for reference during their studies.
