About Julie
I recently graduated from university with a degree in Biochemistry and math. I was a private peer tutor for math and science as a high school student and when I started my second year of university I began tutoring the first/second year students biochemistry and chemistry. I also taught exam prep courses to large groups (50+) of biochemistry and life science students throughout university.

The first and most important step in my teaching is to work with students to identify what teaching style suits them best. I respect that everyone learns differently and I do my absolute best to cater to each student's individual needs. Once I have come up with some ideas about how best to teach my student, I work with them to create a list of academic goals they hope to achieve, as well as a timeline for these goals and an appropriate study schedule that works for both student and teacher. As we progress, I always ensure I am regularly checking up on student progress through the use of quizzes and checkpoint activities. I think it is very important to keep communication open with my students to understand how they are finding their tutoring and to identify areas of strength or improvement. There is often an emotional component to teaching and I find students improve at a faster rate when they can see their own improvement and have some control over how and what they learn.
