About Annaliese
I am a recent graduate of Bard College, where I majored in Written Arts with a minor in Politics. My cGPA was a 3.95, and I passed my senior thesis with honors. Upon graduation, I received two senior awards: the first was for exceptional writing coursework, and the second was for being "the senior student who, in the judgment of the president, has contributed the most to the intellectual life of the college." My creative work has been published in over a dozen journals and literary magazines; writing awards I have received include a commendation for the 2023 Adroit Prize for Poetry.
In addition to taking numerous undergraduate-level writing workshops, literature seminars, and education classes, I have two years of experience captaining and coaching Bard's successful collegiate debate team. I spoke at two editions of the World Universities Debate Championship; was the Top Speaker of the 2026 Colgate Open at Colgate University; and, with my debate partner, won the 2025 Huber Debates at the University of Vermont.
For the Fall 2026 application cycle, I was an endorsed applicant for the Rhodes Scholarship and Marshall Scholarship. I was accepted to all nine graduate programs I applied to, received a perfect score (6) on the Analytical Writing section of the GRE, and was offered a Fulbright Study/Research Award to undertake a master's program in Germany. In the fall I will begin my MPhil in Comparative Social Policy at St. Hilda's College, University of Oxford.

Writing is a skill that almost everyone must use, and yet many people find writing difficult, stressful, or confusing. It is my belief that, through patience and guidance, anyone can learn to find joy and comfort in the writing process.
Each of my lessons begins with a question: “What do you want to learn today?” A typical session is 60-90 minutes; for new students, we start with a conversation about goals and determine the best plan to achieve meaningful skill development while addressing the emotional barriers students face. Depending on student goals, general skill development lessons can involve any of the following: free writing, structured writing exercises, guided editing, text analysis, and more. I can also work with students to develop a resume, review college essays and statements of purpose, and workshop and edit specific pieces of writing.
My lessons are best for middle and high schoolers, college students, prospective graduate students, and professionals looking to improve their writing. I love teaching all forms of writing, though I particularly enjoy tutoring students working on their analytical and rhetorical skills; higher education applications; and creative writing, particularly poetry.
