About Rebecca
As a UCLA psychology student with hands-on experience in education and cognitive learning, I understand how overwhelming coursework can feel. That’s why I take a personalized, student-centered approach, working one-on-one to break down complex topics into manageable steps and build confidence. My experience as a BruinCorps tutor has allowed me to support K-8 students in reading comprehension, writing, and academic skills development. Additionally, my work as a neuroscience researcher has deepened my understanding of how students learn best, allowing me to tailor lessons using evidence-based techniques like active recall, scaffolding, and personalized feedback. My tutoring approach is interactive and student-centered, designed to turn the blank page into a canvas for confident expression. My first goal with new students is to decode their unique learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.) to craft a tailored roadmap for success. I use scaffolded learning—starting with guided exercises before encouraging independent work. In academic essay writing, we begin by planting the seeds of strong ideas through thought-provoking questions that uncover prior knowledge. Then, we sketch a blueprint using structured templates before polishing the final draft like a sculptor refining a masterpiece with well-supported arguments and evidence. To make learning both engaging and effective, I incorporate active recall techniques and real-world examples that help students see the relevance of their work beyond the classroom. Ultimately, my adaptability ensures that students not only sharpen their writing tools but also build the confidence to wield them effectively. Reading and writing may feel like navigating uncharted waters, but with practice, every misstep becomes a stepping stone to mastery—skills that will serve them well for years to come.
