About Maxwell
I hold an undergraduate degree in Materials Engineering from Rutgers University-New Brunswick (which I attended on a full ride), but my tutoring experience began before I even stepped foot on campus. After I achieved an 800 on SAT Math and Math Level 2 during my junior year of high school, my fellow students began turning to me for help. I thus began sitting with other students for one-on-one lessons. Then, during my senior year of high school, when my AP Calculus AB teacher struggled to properly teach our class, I wound up being a de facto teacher for many of my classmates.
Fast forward to now: after getting "A" grades in all my college math classes, I've been tutoring on the side of my other work, but I'm looking to do this far more often, because I really enjoy it. The students I tutor learn the subject material quickly under my tutelage; their progress shows over the course of our lessons, and they tell me I explain the subject matter better to them than their teachers do.

My teaching method is to first walk through solving a math problem step by step, making sure the student is paying attention. I then devise a similar problem for the student to solve on his own, and I step in if the student feels he needs further help from me. After a few problems on which we collaborate, I have the student try a problem entirely without my assistance. Once I feel the student is able to complete a problem with no outside assistance, we'll move on to the next concept (likely one that's closely related to the current subject matter). Every few weeks, I'll administer a practice test to see how well the student's learning is holding up in a testing environment. My goal is to ensure that the knowledge I'm able to impart to students actually lasts with them outside our sessions together.
