I've been tutoring for about ten years, and also have experience being a demonstrator for the physics labs at UniMelb.
Typically lessons are for an hour, but I'm open to longer ones (with breaks).
I have two preferred general approaches to lessons:
First, if the student is struggling with some aspect of a subject, I'll try to present alternate ways of approaching it that may align with the student better, as well as context and history, which I find help most people get a better grip on a subject.
If a student is already thriving with the subject matter, I will extend past what is taught by the respective school, setting up the foundation for their University learning early.
If the student is not struggling, but is not particularly inclined towards learning bonus material, we will generally focus on exam prep.
