About Nicole

I am a qualified primary teacher with a Master's in Education and over eight years of experience supporting children with reading, spelling, and literacy confidence. I have also worked with learners who were coming from alternative education systems such as Steiner or Montessori, including children who were not yet reading at school age. I believe that confidence comes before progress, and I specialize in helping children who feel behind or anxious about reading. My approach is calm, encouraging, and pressure-free, with a strong focus on making literacy feel achievable and positive.

About the lesson

My literacy lessons are designed to support children who need a gentle, patient approach to reading, spelling and written English. I begin each session with small, achievable tasks to build confidence and reduce any pressure or anxiety around reading.

A typical lesson includes:

A warm, relaxed start to help the learner settle and feel safe

Guided reading or phonics-based practice, depending on their level

Positive reinforcement and gentle correction to encourage progress without stress

Fun literacy activities using stories, visuals or real-life words to make learning feel meaningful and engaging

I have worked with children who were struggling to read or coming from alternative educational backgrounds, and I believe strongly in celebrating every small step. My goal is always to make reading feel encouraging, manageable and enjoyable, rather than something to worry about.

These lessons are ideal for:

Children who need extra literacy support outside school

Learners who feel anxious or behind in reading or spelling

Families looking for a kind, patient tutor who understands confidence barriers

Children transitioning from Montessori, Steiner or homeschooling to mainstream schooling

With Nicole, progress is made gently, with patience, encouragement and a focus on confidence first.
