About KANWAL
I believe that confidence is the gateway to success in mathematics. My teaching methodology is built upon a foundation of patience, clarity, and structural progression. Rather than simply showing students how to find an answer, I focus on developing their mathematical resilience and conceptual understanding.
I employ a diagnostic-led approach. In our initial sessions, I take the time to identify not only the topics a student struggles with, but the specific conceptual gaps causing those struggles. From there, I build a personalized learning plan that fills those gaps methodically. Every session follows a proven rhythm:
Recall and Connect: We start with a quick review of previous work to strengthen long-term memory.
New Learning: I introduce new concepts using clear, visual explanations and real-world applications.
Guided and Independent Practice: The student works through problems, moving from supported practice to complete independence.
Reflection: We end each lesson by celebrating progress and setting a clear focus for the next step.
I am a firm believer in creating a judgment-free zone where every question is welcomed, and mistakes are treated as valuable learning opportunities.
To maximize focus and retention, my standard lessons last one hour. This duration allows us to delve deeply into topics without causing mental fatigue. For younger students (ages 5–11), I offer 45-minute sessions tailored to their developmental stage. For advanced students preparing for A-Levels or university entrance exams, I offer 90-minute sessions to allow for comprehensive coverage of complex material.
I hold a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University and have successfully guided students for over more than 5 years.
I specialize in supporting students across [e.g., Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level, including those preparing for 1+ exams, SATs, and GCSE resits. I believe that every student has the potential to enjoy and excel in math; they just need to find the right key. My approach is student-led and diagnostic. I don’t just focus on getting the right answer; I focus on understanding the "why" behind the numbers. In our first session, I identify specific gaps in knowledge, as math is a subject where understanding builds upon previous foundations.
I use a three-step technique:
I Do (Modeling): I walk the student through a problem, explaining my thought process out loud.
We Do (Scaffolding): We tackle a problem together. I ask guiding questions to help them reach the answer independently.
You Do (Independent Learning): The student solves a problem alone to build confidence and solidify the skill.
I incorporate real-life examples, visual aids, and regular positive reinforcement to make lessons engaging and to reduce math anxiety.
I find that the sweet spot for concentration and effective learning is 60 minutes. This gives us enough time to warm up, review previous homework, dive into the day's topic, and complete a summary quiz without causing mental fatigue. For younger children (Primary/KS1), I recommend shorter, 45-minute sessions to match their attention span, while A-Level students may prefer 90-minute deep-dives.
My Qualifications & Experience
I bring more than 5 years of tutoring experience, B.Sc. in Mathematics plus PGCE in Secondary Education. I have helped students from "a failing grade to a B in just three months.
