About Ileana
My name is Ileana and I was born in Bucharest where I spent the first sixteen years of my life. I then moved to Italy where I spent the following fifteen years. I then moved to the UK where I have been living for the past 10 years. My whole career was built around languages. I have over twelve years’ experience of teaching four foreign languages in different cultural contexts and countries. I am passionate about languages and I constantly want to pass this enthusiasm and desire to explore words and ideas on to my learners. I am qualified to teach both adults and young learners and I have been teaching French and Spanish GCSE and general Italian to different ages and abilities. I also have experience teaching English as a foreign language.
Living in three different countries and teaching in multicultural and varied contexts has helped me become open-minded and person oriented, qualities that I find very useful in my teaching career. I think diversity should always be valued and school is the perfect environment to start feeding and developing these important values. I believe mutual respect is the pillar of the rapport I build with my students and with people in general. As a student I have had a traditional education that transmitted me important values like respect, dignity, commitment, ambition, perseverance, strive for success. Nevertheless I am adaptable and receptive to change and teaching and living in different countries developed my flexibility, stimulated my curiosity and increased my awareness of language study as a discipline of mind and as a window to other worlds, cultures and systems of meaning.
After having taught in different contexts, to different ages, levels, nationalities, I embrace the theory that a teacher should guide students along their path towards independent learning and, by acting as a facilitator, make their journey as prolific and enjoyable as possible. I adapt and differentiate my lessons according to different types of learners and support the lowest ability while stretching the highest, thus giving every pupil the opportunity to succeed and excel. I praise my students and create a positive and respectful learning environment where I like guiding them to become independent learners.
