About Joel
Hi, I'm Joel. I love solving problems and working alongside people to help them achieve their goals. I enjoy showing people how mathematics can be super useful outside of education, and helping them develop a passion for the subject I know and love.
Outside of tutoring, I'm often out climbing, and it's shown me just how far the problem-solving skills and perseverance I've built through mathematics can carry over into other areas of life. I hope I can help you discover the same!

My aim is to help you build genuine understanding, not just get through the syllabus. I use a wide range of problems, from foundational skills to complex, seeking to stretch your thinking and deepen your grasp of each topic. Lessons run for 50 minutes, a length that balances steady progress with maintaining focus, and every session is designed to leave you feeling more confident in your own ability. During the last 10 minutes there is an opportunity to reflect on and update targets.
I have experience teaching in schools, both in large classrooms and small groups, supporting students to strengthen their knowledge and skills. Most of my teaching has been with students aged 11–16, alongside experience teaching 16–21 year olds through A-Level and undergraduate mathematics.
