About Kerry
I am a qualified teacher with 5 years experience working in various education settings; including schools and FE colleges.
I have taught KS3 and GCSE science as a classroom teacher. I also spent 12 months teaching Chemistry and Applied science at KS5 in a sixth form college.
I started tutoring working with students funded through Birmingham City council. These students are either looked after children in care or they have long term health conditions that impact their education. Seeing the progress my students make during our sessions makes me feel very proud of my work and my students.
This prompted me to start tutoring as a self employed tutor. I currently have students studying Alevel Chemistry, GCSE Science.
My approach to teaching is to assess my students current understanding, revise key topics, practice questions together and then reassess understanding with exam practice.
My lessons are highly interactive as I use an interactive whiteboard and get my students to actively take place in the lesson. I do not lecture my students and I make sure my students fully understand the content and the way will be assessed in an exam.
As an experienced teacher I understand how students learn and provide the opportunities to make that happen so my students know they are making progress.

I teach my students to master topics of their choice. Once the student has chosen the topics they find the most challenging. I review the fundamental concepts for that topic. I quiz my students at every stage to ensure they fully understand the content before I move on. I will demonstrate worked examples and explain why I am doing each stage. I will then ask the student to tell me what to do for a similar question . I may challenge them to ensure they are confident in the method. When they are ready I will allow them to practice independently. At the end of the lesson I will review learning objectives and identify the progress has made. This boosts my students confidence and helps them feel proud of their achievement. My students always make progress because I ensure they are engaged throughout the session. I will always change my approach if I believe the student needs it.
I have experience teaching and marking BTEC assignments. I can check your coursework with the assignment brief. I will create a detailed checklist and I will tell you if you have met the criteria and if not I can teach you how to get the pass, merit and distinction criteria first time and avoid stressful resubmissions. My rate for online lessons is £20 ph this low rate is because teaching online allows me to see more clients.
If you insist on a home lesson then the cost will be £30 ph
