About Alex
I am a qualified teacher (PGCE & QTS) currently working four days a week in London schools. I lead one-to-one tuition and small intervention groups in Years 4 to 11 - specialising in one hour sessions teaching children at risk of falling behind with the curriculum. I am a qualified teacher (PGCE & QTS) currently working four days a week in London primary schools. I lead one-to-one tuition and small intervention groups in Year 5 and 6 - specialising in one hour sessions teaching children at risk of falling behind with the curriculum. I also have six years' experience as a private tutor, both online and in-person, specialising in 11+ preparation and Maths up to GCSE level.
I offer supportive, structured 11+ tuition designed to help pupils build confidence, strengthen key skills and tighten up exam technique. The exact content of lessons will depend on your child's specific target schools and their exam content, but can include: maths, reading comprehension, creative writing, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
My approach is calm, encouraging and tailored to each child. I help pupils understand why an answer is correct, rather than simply focusing on methods and processes, to further develop their reasoning skills and enable them to become more independent learners.
All new students begin with an assessment of current strengths and areas for development, which I use to create a scheme of lessons, targeting gaps while steadily building exam confidence. I use a mixture of clear explanation, guided practice, timed exercises and exam-style questions so pupils are familiar and comfortable with both the content and the techniques needed to perform well. I place a heavy emphasis on reasoning, problem-solving and time management skills.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, giving enough time to review previous work, recap or introduce a focused topic, work through a range of questions together and set clear next steps. Lessons also include progress feedback and school-specific application advice where appropriate.
These lessons are ideal for pupils preparing for the 11+, typically in Year 4 or 5, as well as families looking for a structured and confidence-building approach to entrance exam preparation. Whether your child is just starting their 11+ journey or needs focused support before the exam, I provide personalised tuition to help them make reliable, measurable progress.
