About Maria S

I am a qualified native Italian teacher with a Master’s degree in Teaching Italian Language and Culture to Foreigners and a certification in online tutoring.
I have lived for several years in English-speaking countries, so I understand the challenges faced by learners who need to communicate in a foreign language. I have also studied English, German and Japanese, and I know how important it is to connect language knowledge with real conversation.
I am the author of two books on Blended Language Learning for language teachers. My teaching experience and research allow me to combine structured instruction with the flexibility of online learning.
My lessons follow the CEFR framework from A1 to C2 and are adapted to your needs, interests and objectives. Whether you want to travel, study, communicate with Italian speakers or obtain a language certification, I will support you with structure, empathy and consistency.
Book a trial lesson and start discovering the Italian language and culture step by step.

About the lesson

My lessons are communicative, interactive and tailored to your goals. From the first lesson, you will use Italian to express yourself, understand others and communicate more confidently in real-life situations.
I combine structured progression with authentic materials such as videos, advertisements and articles, selected according to your level and interests. Textbooks are provided when useful, but I always prioritise practical language and meaningful communication.
I teach all levels from A1 to C2, including complete beginners, advanced learners, students preparing for Italian-language certifications and professionals who need Italian for work.
Lessons can focus on:
• conversation and pronunciation;
• grammar and writing;
• listening comprehension;
• Italian culture and everyday language;
• travel, study and professional communication;
• preparation for language certifications.
All materials are provided, so you do not need to purchase additional books. Lessons take place online in a relaxed and supportive environment. You do not need any particular technical skills: I will guide you through everything.
My aim is to help you speak Italian with confidence, accuracy and cultural awareness.

Perfect! Maria is an excellent tutor, blending experience, structure and attention to detail with a welcoming approach to learning that never feels too much but always delivers impact. Her ability to modulate her speed, focus and communication according my level is very helpful. I feel she is targeting areas of weakness without ever saying so but is subtly and consistently improving my standard at each lesson. My classes with Maria have reignited my desire to learn and become better every week. Thank you Maria!

Maria S's response
You did perfect today! I think will be nice to improve your Italian language skill. You know enough to start quickly the "A2 programme". I would suggest you to have some lessons to revise some grammatical structures through communication. Firsly, I would work on:

• Fare una richiesta

• Chiedere un’informazione

• Chiedere quanto costa qualcosa

• Chiedere l’ora

• Prenotare un hotel

• Parlare di azioni quotidiane

• Invitare qualcuno a fare qualcosa

• Interagire al ristorante o al bar

• Interagire in un negozio

• Usare mi piace
By doing that, you will have a stronger competence of your Italian language and you will reinforce feminine /masculine articles; c'è/ci sono; essere/avere and other simple tense verbs; till to arrive to passato prossimo.
Buona serata!

I am writing to highly recommend Silvana as the best Italian Superprof. I had the pleasure of working with Silvana in an Italian language learning program and I can confidently say that she is one of the most skilled and dedicated instructors I have ever come across.

Silvana's teaching approach is comprehensive and effective, incorporating a variety of methods to ensure her students fully grasp the material. She is patient and kind, and always takes the time to make sure that each student understands the material before moving on. Her enthusiasm for teaching is infectious, and she is always willing to go the extra mile to help her students succeed.

One thing that sets Silvana apart from other instructors is her ability to make learning fun. She uses games, music, and other interactive activities to engage her students and keep them motivated. Her classes are always dynamic and exciting.

Overall, I cannot recommend Silvana highly enough as a Superprof. She is an outstanding teacher who truly cares about her students' success.

Find out more about Maria S

Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I am an Italian native speaker with a strong passion for my language e culture.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
That’s a hard question to answer! I could mention so many of them. However, I like to say Federico Fellini, Sofia Loren or Umberto Eco, Oriana Fallaci. I can also mention Botticelli, Caravaggio, Giotto… :-)
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
”Per non sapere né leggere né scrivere”.
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
First of all, it is my language. it is a cultural language, full of nuances and charm.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
In Italy, there are lots of different accents and dialects. Studying only in books does not help to learn a foreign language. It is useful to start from communication integrating the sociolinguistic aspects of the language. I would suggest using an inductive approach to understanding the language structure starting from communication/interaction.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I studied English, German and Japanese. Studying a foreign language can be hard and frustrating. The right approach can definitily change your learning. That’s why I decided to study how to teach the Italian language and culture to foreign students.
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Travelling to the country of your target language is what can assure you to learn the language avoiding to use it as “book style” and help you to be more natural. Learning from a native teacher gives you something precious.
What makes you a Superprof in language?
I deeply know my language. I have loads of passion for the Italian language and culture and I am emphatic and devoted to my students. I like the learning and I like them to understand how to use the language to communicate.
