Hi, I’m Claire, a qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood and Primary and 8 years’ experience teaching children in a variety of settings. I have experience working with children with additional learning needs, tailoring lessons to support each child’s abilities and build confidence. I specialize in helping children learn to read, write, and develop numeracy skills through personalized, engaging, and structured lessons. My approach is friendly, motivating, and supportive, designed to make learning enjoyable and effective. I begin with a short assessment or chat to identify your child’s current reading, writing, or numeracy level and their personal interests. From there, I create a tailored plan that supports their next steps and keeps them motivated. Each session blends explicit teaching (such as phonics, spelling patterns, or number strategies) with hands-on activities and games to make learning enjoyable. I include time for practice, feedback, and positive reinforcement so your child leaves each lesson feeling successful. I specialize in: • Early literacy—letter sounds, decoding, fluency, and comprehension • Writing—sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and creative or factual writing • Numeracy—number facts, problem solving, and mental math strategies Session Details • School holidays only, perfect for catch-up or extension before a new term • Flexible format: your home, a local Hobart library, or online • Typical session: 45–60 minutes, adjusted to suit your child’s age and focus Parents receive a brief update after each lesson so you know exactly how your child is progressing and what to practice at home.
