About Heather
I am a highly qualified and experienced primary school teacher. I have a Masters Degree in Education, as well as a PGCE in Primary Education. My undergraduate degree was in Childhood and Youth Studies, covering child development and child psychology amongst many other thing. I also have additional training in mental health, wellbeing, early years, safeguarding, behaviour management and much more.
I have 20 years experience with children, and I am a very patient and kind teacher. I will work at your child’s pace and celebrate their efforts and achievements, so they feel confident and able to take on anything!

I have been teaching phonics and early writing for many years, and I am very passionate about helping children learn to read and write. I can teach all aspects of early reading and writing, such as letter recognition, comprehension, story language, spelling, sight reading and more.
My lessons are suitable for those who are just beginning their reading and writing journey, or for those who need a little bit of a confidence boost. I can also help where your child has missed some schooling due to illness, or has gaps for any other reasons. I also work with children who are homeschooled, and need a little guidance from an experienced teacher.
I specialise in lessons which focus on what interests and motivates your child, as this is what makes the learning stick. My teaching is primarily through play, which makes it enjoyable and relaxing for children. For example, if your child enjoys playing cars then we can practice writing by making letter shaped roads for the cars to drive on, and reading street signs. I will tailor each lesson to your child’s stage of learning and their strengths, so they can experience lots of successful learning.
