About the lesson

My Qualifications:
BSc Natural Sciences from Durham University (2:1).
PGCE through TeachFirst and the University of Wolverhampton.

Teaching Experience:
I have been an Assistant Subject Leader of Science for 2 years and a Science teacher for 6 years. Both Ofsted and my department have rated my teaching as Outstanding, though what matters more is that students look forward to my lessons & leave feeling passion for the subject. I have taught Biology to A Level, all 3 Sciences to GCSE level and Maths at KS3.

Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored privately and within the school throughout my teaching career, working with students to strengthen their understanding through problem solving and challenge.

Lesson Structure:
This will be tailored to each student, however the general structure is as follows:
1- brief set of questions to check retention of previous lesson’s content
2- assess current understanding of today’s topic & any gaps
3- ensure key facts are understood
4- application of understanding - exam questions, tasks & activities (ideally this will form the bulk of the lesson)

Resources:
I plan lessons to be visually engaging and challenging. I use the interactive whiteboard to illustrate concepts and have a graphics tablet for high quality interaction. I have a large bank of digital resources from my classroom teaching.

About Me:
I am a smiley and adventurous person who loves to explore the world and the rich experiences it presents me with! Some of my passions include hockey, scuba-diving, hiking, reading and art. I have worked for NCS The Challenge for 4 summers, taking 16-17 year olds well out of their comfort zones! I have also taken a group of students to Borneo for 3 weeks with World Challenge. I believe firmly that every child deserves the opportunities to achieve their best in life.
