About Jordi
I am a documentary photographer with experience working for different newspapers, studying photography at university level, and pursuing my own projects. My photography approach focuses on the intersection of art, social sciences, and documentary and conceptual photography, exploring social, critical and reflective perspectives.
I am a guest lecturer, conducting workshops and giving talks at American universities such as The George Washington and Marywood, in addition to UK institutions at Norwich, Solent, Bournemouth and Plymouth. I tutor both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students.
I have published a photobook which has been recognised in various international competitions and reviewed in media such as ’The Guardian and ‘Washington Post’ and published by Magnum Photographer Alec Soth in ‘My Little Brown Mushroom’.
I have a master's degree in History of Art with Photography from Birkbeck University, in addition to a Photojournalism postgraduate degree from the University of Barcelona.

I am a friendly, hands-on tutor, always happy to answer questions in a simple and straight-forward manner for both amateur and more experienced photography students. In my lessons, I engage with students in a horizontal, less hierarchical way, understanding that anyone can be lost at the early stages of the creative journey.
My methodology is focused in showing and breaking down the process of my works and is a reason why several universities have invited me as a guest lecturer. Sharing with students all the strategies I have applied over more than 20 years of developing documentary projects, has helped them to sharpen their own visual style and direction. I am able to help with portfolios for photography school applications, giving more narrative and coherence to projects and supporting image selection, from the early stage of projects to their materialisation.
I teach courses in both theoretical and practical aspects related to: artistic development, framing and composing, portraiture, street photography, editing, social documentary, architecture, conceptual photography, creative photography, creative research, digital and analogue photography, and portfolio review.
As a published photographer I am happy to help with the curational process of making a photobook. Topics such as the design layout, publisher approach, crowdfunding campaign, mass media strategies for public circulation, and how to apply to photography contests.
For beginner photographers, I can teach the basic principles of photography such as: camera setting, composition, lighting, aperture, and depth of field.
In the first lesson, we will discuss goals and the photography topics that students would like to cover and can work out a plan based on the requirements.
Lessons can be conducted in English or Spanish.
