MATHEMATICS TUITION | GCSE, IGCSE, A-LEVEL, FURTHER MATHS & IB | TMUA, STEP & OXBRIDGE ADMISSIONS

I am a full-time professional private tutor with 12,000+ hours of one-to-one teaching experience since 2013. I hold a BA (Hons) and MSci in Natural Sciences from Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, specialising in Experimental & Theoretical Physics.

I teach Mathematics from primary level through GCSE, IGCSE, A-level, Further Mathematics and IB, as well as undergraduate mathematics modules across a range of quantitative degrees. I teach GCSE, IGCSE and A-level specifications including AQA, Edexcel and OCR, and regularly prepare students for competitive school and university entrance examinations.

My work includes:

• Primary and secondary Mathematics
• GCSE and IGCSE Mathematics
• A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
• IB Mathematics
• AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications
• 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+ school entrance examinations and interviews
• TMUA and STEP preparation
• Oxbridge, Engineering and competitive STEM and quantitative university applications
• Undergraduate mathematics across mathematics, physics, engineering, economics, business and finance courses
• Long-term and short-term home-schooling programmes

I have completed 1,000+ hours of Oxbridge mock interviewing and was Principal Oxbridge STEM Mock Interviewer at Epsom College from 2018–22.

Recent admissions successes include offers from Cambridge and Imperial in the biological and physical sciences, together with 16+ entry to Westminster School, Brighton College and Latymer Upper School, and 11+ entry to leading London Consortium schools and St Paul’s School.

Recent academic successes among students include grade 9 results at GCSE and A* results at A-level in mathematics and the sciences, successful undergraduate mathematics module resits, and a distinction-level dissertation mark for a student on UCL’s MSc Private Equity and Venture Capital with Financial Technology programme.

I am also scheduled to deliver a TMUA workshop at Eton College in September 2026. I previously delivered Oxbridge Applications workshops at La Salle, German Swiss International School and Harrow International in Hong Kong.

My home-schooling experience includes sole responsibility for a student’s IGCSE Science tuition over two years, culminating in a final grade A, and a current appointment, now in its third year, delivering a primary student’s complete mathematics and science curriculum, including super-curricular enrichment such as robotics.

I teach both in person across London and the Home Counties and online worldwide. As a driver and cyclist, I can also reach areas of London that are less convenient by public transport.

MY BACKGROUND

At Cambridge I studied mathematics alongside physics, chemistry and materials science before specialising in Experimental & Theoretical Physics in Parts II and III of the Natural Sciences Tripos. Mathematics therefore formed an integral part of my degree throughout, particularly in mechanics, differential equations, probability, statistics and the mathematical methods underlying theoretical physics.

My teaching experience began while at Cambridge. Through the Cavendish Laboratory Education Outreach programme I worked as an assistant physics teacher at Coleridge Community College, preparing and delivering lessons and helping to plan the Year 8 physics curriculum. I also taught science, mathematics and English in India and Beijing.

I have since developed long-standing tutoring appointments with families in London and internationally and am registered with 16+ London tutoring agencies, including Gabbitas, Simply Learning Tuition, Quintessentially Education and Educate Private.

Outside tutoring, I completed a geophysics internship at BP’s North Sea headquarters and have a continuing interest in algorithmic trading and quantitative finance, including independent study of doctoral-level asset pricing.

My Mathematics lessons combine three priorities: secure conceptual understanding, efficient problem-solving and precise examination technique.

At the outset, I identify whether a student’s difficulties arise from gaps in underlying mathematical knowledge, uncertainty over which method to use, errors in algebraic manipulation, or difficulty applying familiar ideas to unfamiliar problems. Lessons can then be targeted efficiently rather than simply repeating material the student already understands.

For GCSE, IGCSE and A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, I work closely with the relevant specification and examination board, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR. I also teach IB Mathematics. I use progressively more demanding questions and past-paper material to develop both mathematical fluency and the ability to select an efficient method under timed conditions.

Lessons commonly develop:

• Strong algebraic fluency and accurate manipulation
• Clear understanding of mathematical concepts rather than memorisation of procedures alone
• Efficient selection of methods under examination time pressure
• Multi-stage problem-solving and unfamiliar questions
• Geometry, trigonometry, functions and graphs
• Calculus, sequences, series and differential equations at the appropriate level
• Mechanics, probability and statistics where required by the course
• Clear mathematical notation and logically structured working
• Past-paper technique and methods for reducing avoidable errors

Depending on the student, I can act in several complementary roles:

• Teacher: delivering a structured Mathematics course alongside or independently of the school curriculum
• Problem-solving tutor: addressing difficult topics, homework and challenging examination questions
• Mentor: helping students organise revision, identify weaknesses and become increasingly independent

For students aiming for the highest grades, I place particular emphasis on moving beyond recognition of familiar question types. Strong mathematicians need to decide independently which ideas are relevant, combine techniques from different topics and construct an efficient route to a solution. I therefore use unfamiliar and progressively more demanding problems alongside standard examination practice.

For TMUA and STEP preparation, the emphasis shifts further towards mathematical reasoning, problem selection, efficient argument and working confidently without being led through a prescribed method. I help students distinguish between approaches that are mathematically valid and those that are sufficiently efficient for a highly time-pressured admissions examination.

For school entrance at 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+, I can provide structured preparation covering curriculum knowledge, problem-solving, non-routine mathematics and examination technique. Where appropriate, I also prepare students for mathematics-focused interviews.

For Oxbridge, Engineering and other competitive quantitative university applications, I provide TMUA and STEP preparation where relevant, alongside UCAS application support, personal statement development, super-curricular enrichment and interview preparation. I encourage students to develop mathematical thinking beyond the school syllabus through wider problem-solving rather than treating admissions preparation as a collection of isolated tricks.

I also teach undergraduate mathematics modules across a range of quantitative degrees, including mathematics used within physics, engineering, economics, business and finance. This can include pure and applied mathematics, mathematical methods for physics and engineering, probability and statistics, and the mathematical content of economics, business and finance courses.

I have substantial experience with home-schooling and full curriculum delivery, where lessons require more than supplementary tutoring: I plan progression, select appropriate material, monitor attainment and take responsibility for ensuring that the relevant curriculum is covered.

Online lessons are delivered using a tablet-and-stylus setup with screen sharing and collaborative working, allowing each stage of an argument, derivation or calculation to be developed clearly in real time. I also teach in person throughout London and the Home Counties and am available seven days a week.
