About Stuart
Hi there, I’m Stuart. I currently work as a secondary school science teacher and have enjoyed sharing my passion for science with pupils in a classroom setting for over 8 years. After completing a Biochemistry degree in 1994, I was employed as a research scientist by Zeneca, a global leader in pharmaceutical and agrochemical development and production. This role involved working as part of a team, at the forefront of scientific research, to develop genetically enhanced food crops with improved resistance to biological pests and increased crop yields. After leaving my role at Zeneca, I completed a teacher training course in 2015 and have immensely enjoyed working as a secondary school science teacher for the last 8 years, teaching science at KS3, GCSE and A Level as well as delivering numeracy support classes. In my school, I currently run a lunchtime STEM Club (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) during which pupils learn about STEM-related career opportunities through a range of engaging and enjoyable activities from augmented reality learning tasks to using coding to programme and fly a drone. I also have a passion for all adventurous outdoor activities and as a qualified outdoor expedition leader and assessor, I manage a Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for participants at my school.
