About Kate
I have spent 10 years teaching programming, holding a B.Sc in Computer Science and an M.Sc in Software Engineering and Data Analytics. My experience spans mentoring beginners through foundational coding to guiding advanced learners in sophisticated algorithms and software projects. I focus on combining conceptual understanding with practical application to make programming engaging and intellectually stimulating.
My teaching approach emphasises clarity, student-centred guidance, and hands-on problem-solving. Lessons integrate structured exercises, real-world examples, coding projects, and guided exploration to cultivate creativity, analytical thinking, and independence. I foster a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, experiment, and gain confidence in their abilities.

Programming is most effective when learners understand both the logic and the application of code. My lessons cover Python, Java, algorithms, data structures, object-oriented programming, debugging, and project development. I employ hands-on exercises, interactive coding challenges, guided walkthroughs, and real-world project examples to develop computational thinking, problem-solving skills, and independent coding confidence. Each lesson is designed to cultivate curiosity, persistence, and mastery while providing a supportive, encouraging learning environment.
Lessons are tailored to the learner’s level. Beginners focus on basic syntax, loops, conditionals, variables, and problem-solving logic.
