About Christopher
I have taught students at the university level since 1998. I have taught mathematics, statistics, computer science, and data science courses, and I've designed more than a few.
In addition to teaching higher level courses, I've also taught the beginning algebra course for 18 years. This is a course for students who have typically struggled with mathematics or who have been out of school for several years. I always approach this course as a teacher/coach, and I've helped hundreds of students move on to success in their business and engineering mathematics courses.
Due to an injury it became physically difficult for me to continue in the traditional classroom. I'm looking forward to pivoting to an online platform to continue the work I love!

I teach material with an interactive conversation because teaching is not about my understanding...it's about yours. I don't lecture; we talk. I don't draw; we cooperatively construct diagrams. We have a conversation, until...
I switch roles. Once you have your feet under you, I'm no longer your teacher but your coach. We'll assess your knowledge and performance. What's the difference? Just because you know some content or a mathematical procedure doesn't mean you are ready for a stressful situation, like using that material in a project or on an exam. I approach performance assessment through a cognitive load lens; we'll look at the tasks that are slowing you down or causing you uncertainty and practice those fundamentals. Just like you work on the tennis swing that's giving you trouble, we'll break down our assessment and work on the foundational tasks.
My lessons are not for everyone. I don't move as fast as other teachers, and I focus on learning techniques as well as content. Many of my strongest students have been student athletes, because they understand that to succeed in the game you have to train on the fundamentals.
My lessons are designed for high school and undergraduate college/university students working in algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and statistics. These are all courses I have taught for years at the university level.
