About Ariel
I've been teaching in some capacity for over ten years. The year prior to college I worked full time as an assistant teacher in an elementary classroom through AmeriCorps. During college, I spent my summers teaching storytelling to adults, robotics to kids, and narrative fiction to 5th graders. After college, I spent two years in Teach For America, teaching 3rd grade and getting my master's degree at the same time. I now have my professional license in K-6 education and a Master's in teaching with a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse education. I've completed my 5th year full-time in the classroom and am taking this year off to develop my own creative writing. I can't imagine not teaching for a whole year, so I'll be tutoring former students and have room for more students in my schedule. Maybe that will be you!

My teaching style focuses on finding the joy in learning. I believe that everyone learns better when they are deeply and meaningfully engaged. In the past five years I've taught 3rd-5th grade, and I've seen time and again that invested students are successful students.
A typical math lesson plan might involve talking about what multiplication LOOKS like, and then using household objects (like cheerios, rocks, toys) to demonstrate those skills.
I've taught 2nd-5th grade math over my time in the classroom, and tutored students outside the classroom to make it fun, meaningful, and engaging.
