About Rachel
I am a professional screenwriter and English tutor, and have been giving lessons in writing, reading and English courses for three years. I've taught classrooms at the college level and high school level, commanding workshops and intensives for them. I also teach privately, averaging a half dozen students a year. Currently, I have three middle school students, two college age students, and two recent college graduates who I mentor in early career development in their pursuit of writing. My middle school students consistently gain 95%-100% marks on their work, and every one of my college students I either teach or mentor have gone on to gainful employment in the film, arts or writing world, depending on their passion.

My teaching methods are determined by the students, in that I find younger students or those with weaker skills require a more structured classroom. Those students that are are college-aged, recent grads or early professionals tend to receive a more curated approach, one that seeks to administer to their experience, goals and weak points. I always begin with a consultation lesson that gets to the core of a student's aptitude, appetite and experience. From there, I craft a plan that I always share with students, or parents, to make sure we're on the same page. For younger students, I tend to work to demystify the academic writing process, and create rules, strategies and patterns for them to follow with each assignment so they aren't overwhelmed by the task, or the empty page. Older or more advanced students benefit from leaning into their creativity, assigning outside reading or designing exercises that push their skills, so they can develop their own methodology as writers and critical readers.
