About Coleman
Hello! My name is Coleman Rose and I am a professional saxophonist and composer living in Brooklyn, NY. My musical upbringing began in Boston, where I attended preparatory programs at both the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. I then went on to complete my Bachelor’s Degree at the Oberlin Conservatory, and my Master’s Degree at the Manhattan School of Music, which brought me to New York. Throughout all my schooling, I have been taught by master musicians, who have not only made me a better musician, but have also shaped how I have my students for the past five years.

My teaching focuses on two major areas of music making; 1. Technique and Instrument Mastery and 2. Musicality. I believe it is essential to always be expanding your abilities on your instrument, which is why I focus heavily on helping students develop their technique and eliminate previous barriers that had existed for them. This happens through a catered approach to each student consisting of personal exercises and an emphasis on strong fundamentals. In addition to technical ability, it is essential to have a strong understanding of how music works to be the best musician we can be. This part of my teaching is very much tailored to the interests of each specific student, but it is rooted in learning songs, studying music theory, learning improvisation techniques, composition, and ear training. This approach has proven to be successful with all my students, from beginners to advanced college students, whom I taught at Oberlin College. I prefer to work in a one-on-one setting and in person when possible, but am also available for online lessons.
