About Briar
I am a passionate and dedicated violin tutor with over 12 years of experience teaching college students from different learning backgrounds. I believe that learning violin is not only about playing notes correctly, but also about understanding music deeply and expressing emotions confidently through the instrument.
My goal is to help students grow as skilled, independent, and creative musicians. My teaching style is a mix of creativity, critical thinking, and mentorship. I focus on building strong fundamentals such as posture, bow control, finger placement, rhythm, and intonation. At the same time, I encourage students to think about the music they play—why a piece sounds the way it does and how they can improve it with expression and technique.
I guide students step by step and adjust lessons based on their learning speed and goals. I use innovative teaching methods such as slow practice techniques, guided listening, play-along tracks, and practice planning. I also include basic music theory, ear training, and sight-reading to help students become confident performers.
For college students, I support exam preparation, auditions, ensemble playing, and performance confidence. Accountability is an important part of my teaching. I help students set clear weekly goals and track their progress regularly. I give constructive feedback and motivate students to practice effectively, not just for long hours.
My lessons are supportive, focused, and goal-oriented. Apart from violin, I can also help with related subjects like basic music theory, rhythm training, and performance skills. My violin teaching approach focuses on clear guidance, creativity, and steady progress. I believe students learn best when lessons are structured but also enjoyable. Each class is planned according to the student’s level, goals, and learning pace.
Creativity is encouraged in every lesson. I use engaging warm-ups, musical patterns, and expressive playing to help students enjoy learning. Students are guided to explore different sounds and emotions on the violin, which builds confidence and interest.
As a critical thinker and mentor, I help students understand the reasons behind every technique. I explain bow control, finger placement, posture, and intonation in simple steps. Students learn to listen carefully and develop self-correction skills during practice.
Accountability is an important part of my teaching. I provide clear practice routines and achievable goals. Progress is reviewed regularly, helping students build discipline, focus, and consistency.
Along with violin, I also teach related subjects such as music theory, rhythm training, ear training, sight-reading, and performance skills. My goal is to develop confident, independent violin players with a strong musical foundation
