About Bernardo
I’m a Los Angeles-based professional photographer and visual artist, born and raised in Mexico City. I began my career in fashion photography, shooting my first New York Fashion Week season in 2018, and have since worked across fashion, editorial, portraiture, music, and fine art.
My work has been published in outlets including British Vogue, and I’ve photographed artists, musicians, designers, and personalities in both highly produced environments and intimate portrait settings. I trained at the Los Angeles Center of Photography and have spent years working with both analog and digital photography, from directing and lighting a shoot through editing and the final image.
Alongside my commercial work, I have developed an independent fine-art practice centered around analog photography and experimental processes. I’m represented by Galería Hilario Galguera in Mexico City, where I’ve presented both solo and group exhibitions.
What I enjoy most about teaching is helping someone move beyond simply knowing how to operate a camera. Technique matters, but photography becomes much more interesting when you understand light, composition, people, storytelling, and—most importantly—what makes an image feel like your own.
I’m happy working with complete beginners as well as photographers who already have technical experience and want to strengthen their portfolio, portraiture, artistic direction, or personal visual language.

I teach photography from the perspective of a working professional photographer and exhibiting fine artist.
My lessons are tailored to your level and what you actually want to accomplish — whether you’re picking up a camera for the first time, learning to shoot film, developing a stronger understanding of light and composition, building a portrait portfolio, or trying to develop a recognizable photographic language of your own.
Rather than teaching photography as a list of technical rules, I focus on understanding why an image works. We can work on camera technique, exposure, lighting, composition, portraiture, directing subjects, film photography, selecting and editing images, sequencing, portfolio development, and the process of turning an idea into a finished body of work.
For more advanced photographers and artists, I can also work with you on developing a personal visual language, conceptualizing projects, editing a portfolio, preparing work for publication or exhibition, and navigating the transition between commercial photography and fine-art practice.
Lessons can be practical shoots, portfolio critiques, technical sessions, or a combination depending on your goals.
