About Caitlin
I recently graduated from the University of Warwick with a high first in English Literature and Creative Writing. I have significant experience tutoring ages 4-15 in English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing and Phonics both with tutoring companies and privately, and have also helped prepare many students for the 11+ exam. When I'm not tutoring one-on-one, I give seminars on study skills and exam preparedness across the West Midlands, and I am also a published writer and poet and performed playwright. In my tutoring career, I have coached students through Yr2 and Yr6 SATS, school entrance tests, Yr9 Cambridge Pre-U checkpoint, mock exams and GCSEs.
I also currently run a 20-week creative writing course for ages 7-16, the main point of which is to get children familiar with a range of styles and techniques and to give extremely detailed and personal feedback on written pieces. I teach across a very wide range of abilities, from gifted and talented students to those for whom English is a second language, and I have students ranging in age from four years old to fifteen. My lessons prepare them for anything from the step up to chapter books to their GCSEs, or in some cases support an existing love or talent - I also run classes on creative writing and poetry analysis. I take a very curriculum first approach in my classes, making sure that my students understand exactly what it is that they will be assessed on, and try to foster a love of reading, writing and critical thinking on that foundation. I love hunting for books, short stories, plays and poems to suit each individual student's tastes, and don't reuse lessons, always planning around each individual student's strengths and weaknesses. My aim is to foster a genuine interest in the subject in each of my students!
