About Alfie
I am an English teacher working in Redbrige. Having fell in love with English and literature during my own GCSEs, I am a teacher with real passion for my subject and a drive to inspire that in others. I have worked in several schools previously with a variety of ages from reception up to A-Level. In my career thus far, I have taught to a wide range of abilities, and am more than capable to identify the specific needs of my pupils and match my teaching to their ability to promote their own progress!

My lessons employ a range of strategies and learning styles to fit the needs and abilities of my pupils. Usually, this will involve a discussion based activity, moving between different topics and linking text to wider ideas and thinking, before moving into a written task to consolidate learning and aid revision later.
I recognise that English is not purely a written language, and we experience language and culture in a myriad of ways. In my lessons with large classes, I have brought this to life using drama, debates and even had my students create their own film adaptions! While this group based approach is not always applicable to one-to-one tutoring, I would be an ideal teacher for a pupil who does not always enjoy writing.
However, while I prize the value of discussion and exploration of English beyond written text, I recognise that the curriculum requires strong writing skills and thus this will be taught alongside any discussion. Thankfully, I am a keen essay writer and creative writer myself, and past students have responded well to the tasks and teaching I have used to engage them in the act of writing.
