About Laura
I have recently submitted my PhD thesis in epigenetics/molecular biology at the University of Glasgow and have an extensive background in all aspects of human biology. I have also trained in chemistry up to a university level and can tutor confidently in these areas in particular.
Additionally, I have spent a great deal of time pursuing my passion of science communication by working as lead writer and presenter of 'Superhero Science' which teaches scientific ideas through the medium of superheroes! This project has allowed me to teach all ages, from primary school (~8 years) up to adults, and to adapt my teaching style to these age groups. The project was also the winner of a Herald Higher Education Award in 2016.
On top of this, I have taught and demonstrated at university level in the biological sciences, and have casually tutored two National 5 students in chemistry.
I pride myself on my ability to teach difficult concepts in an easily understandable way, and understand that each individual learns in a different manner, which I believe is key to achieving the desired outcome.
I am also PVG certificated and happy to provide proof of certification.
