About Alexander
Learn Drums. Build Confidence. Develop Your Musicality.
Hello! I’m Alexander Savva, a professional drummer, music producer and experienced drum tutor based in my own purpose-built studio in Whetstone, North London.
I started learning drums at just 5 years old, and after more than 20 years of playing and over 12 years of teaching, I’ve developed a teaching approach that focuses on much more than simply learning to play songs.
My aim is to help each student become a confident, well-rounded musician while making lessons enjoyable and rewarding. Whether you’re a complete beginner, working towards grades, looking to improve your technique, or simply want to learn drums for fun, I tailor every lesson around your individual goals and musical interests.
What you can work on:
* Drum technique, coordination and timing
* Playing your favourite songs
* Grade preparation and exam technique
* Reading and understanding rhythms
* Groove, fills and improvisation
* Playing with other musicians
* Confidence and performance skills
* Developing your own musical style
I also have extensive experience in music production, so lessons can go beyond the drums. Students interested in creating their own music can also develop their understanding of recording, production and how drums fit into a professional music environment.
I graduated with First Class Honours in Popular Music Performance (Drums) from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in 2020. Alongside teaching, I continue to work as a professional musician, producer and songwriter, including live performance and studio work.
I’m proud to have achieved a 100% pass rate in drum grade exams for students I have taught and prepared, with students achieving Merit and Distinction results.
Most importantly, I want my students to leave each lesson feeling that they have genuinely learned something, improved their playing and are excited to pick up the sticks again.
Whether your goal is to become a professional musician or simply play drums because you love music, I’d love to help you get there.

Every lesson is tailored to you. Whether you’re picking up the sticks for the first time, preparing for a grade, returning to drums after a break, or simply wanting to play your favourite songs, I structure lessons around your ability, interests and goals.
I teach from my own purpose-built private studio in Whetstone, Barnet, which I have been running since 2020. I work full-time in music from the studio, giving students the opportunity to learn in a professional, creative environment.
The studio has both a full-size acoustic drum kit and an electric drum kit, allowing me to play alongside students during lessons. This is a huge part of my teaching approach because I can demonstrate techniques in real time, play grooves and songs together, and help students develop their timing, coordination and confidence through actually playing together.
I teach all ages and abilities, from complete beginners through to more advanced players. I have taught students from 6 to 60 years old and have experience working across a wide range of musical styles, including:
Rock • Funk • Soul • Blues • R&B • Hip-Hop • Jazz • Fusion • Pop
Want to learn a particular song? We can work on that too. Learning music you genuinely enjoy is one of the best ways to stay motivated and make progress.
Alongside practical playing, I use a range of established drum methods, exercises and books to develop your technique, coordination, timing, reading, musicality and understanding of the instrument. My aim isn’t simply to teach you how to play drums, but to help you become a confident, versatile and well-rounded musician.
I also offer drum grade preparation, and I’m proud to have a 100% pass rate for students I have taught and prepared for grade examinations.
Most importantly, lessons should be enjoyable. I love seeing students develop their ability, confidence and passion for music, whether their goal is to perform, work towards grades, play with friends, or simply have fun behind the kit.

Alex is a great teacher. He helped me to establish and reach my goals. Would recommend!
As a beginner to learning drums I found that Alex’s teaching methods were easy for me to follow and I found I achieved an understanding quickly on the drum kit. It was so much fun and couldn’t wait for my next lesson. Alex is friendly and a great tutor. Thank you for the lessons.
Alex is a wonderful teacher which truly cares about education within music, he is not only very knowledgeable but passionate and is able to explain information in a way which is understandable. I would highly recommend Alex as he is very patient and is truly amazing at what he does
Having been referred to Alex, choosing to take lessons from him for our young son was a terrific decison. After 2 yrs, Alex's clear and concise instruction, tailored to the age and experience of the student, along with a very comfortable environment means our now 12 yr old son has come on leaps and bounds. Alex has seen him though Grades 2 to 4 and working on Grade 5 at the moment.
Alex is a fantastic teacher! He will be able to guide you on your journey be that from a total novice (me) or an elite professional looking for those marginal gains.
During our lessons Alex always helps me to improve the understanding of the process and skills and will take his time to answer any questions I have to ensure I have full understanding. Each lesson is tailored to the individual and to guide them on their own drumming journey.
I highly recommend lessons with Alex, from novice to Pro or a hobbyist like myself. You will always leave a lesson with Alex feeling like you have taken that step forward and wanting to book another asap.View more recommendations
