• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  My fascination with dance began when I was just 8 years old, when I first enrolled in Odissi dance classes. This traditional Indian dance form captivated me, and I was drawn to its beauty, elegance, and expressiveness. As I delved deeper into the world of dance, I became increasingly curious about other styles and forms. I found myself eager to explore and learn more about various dance styles, from classical to contemporary to Funk to Jazz to Hip Hop to Bollywood and everything in between.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  My motivation for teaching dance stems from my own experiences as a student. I was deeply inspired by Lauren Froderman, the winner of Season 7 on So You Think You Can Dance. Her passion, dedication, and artistry left a lasting impression on me. I realized that I wanted to share that same passion and inspire others to find their own love for dance. As I began teaching, I discovered the joy of watching students grow and develop their own unique style. It's incredibly rewarding to see the impact that dance can have on someone's life, and I feel grateful to be a part of that journey.

• How does your work help society?

  As a dance teacher, I believe my work has a positive impact on society. I help students develop essential life skills like discipline, confidence, and self-expression. Additionally, I've studied Dance Movement Therapy, which enables me to use dance as a tool for healing, stress relief, and emotional growth. By sharing the joy of dance, I aim to inspire a more confident, creative, and compassionate community.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  Beyoncé is an incredible role model for me. Her work ethic, dedication, and passion for her craft are truly inspiring. As a performer, she embodies empowerment, confidence, and self-expression, which are values I strive to instill in my students. Her ability to use dance as a means of storytelling and social commentary is also something I admire and aspire to incorporate into my own teaching. She's a true icon and a constant source of inspiration for me!

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside of teaching, I'm a creative soul with a passion for all things art! I love exploring different forms of visual art, from painting to m art therapy. Singing is another one of my favourite hobbies - I've always been drawn to Western music, and it's actually what sparked my interest in Western dance styles. I also enjoy journaling as a way to reflect and express myself. And, I must say, I have a flair for the dramatic - I love compering for events and hosting shows! It's a great way for me to connect with people and showcase my creativity.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  So many! But here it goes :
  
  As a seasoned dancer, I've had my fair share of stage time - from college productions to professional shows. But, I'll let you in on a little secret: even the most seasoned performers can forget their choreography!
  Yes, it's happened to me too!
  But, being the centre dancer had its perks - I could improvise and cover up my mistakes without anyone noticing!
  That experience taught me a valuable lesson, which I now pass on to my students : When you forget your steps, don't freeze! Instead, own the moment, let your passion shine, and make the performance your own! That's the mantra I live by, and it's transformed the way my students approach performance.
