About James

Hi! I’m James, an award-winning classical pianist who recently graduated with a Master’s degree at the prestigious Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. With over 20 years of piano experience and 10 years of teaching experience, I offer engaging and personalised lessons for students of all ages and levels.

I’ve been fortunate to study with world-renowned pianists such as Rolf Plagge and Stefan Arnold (professors at Austrian Universities) and to participate in international masterclasses and festivals across Europe and Australia from some of the best professors in the world including: Robert Levin (Mozart specialist and Harvard Professor), Piotr Paleczny (Chopin Competition jury and Warsaw Professor), and Pavel Gililov (Beethoven Competition director and Mozarteum Professor).

In 2026, I won 1st prize at the WPTA Austria International Piano Competition, 1st prize at the 2025 Munich Piano Competition and 1st prizes at both the 2024 Bach International Music Competition and the 2024 Royal Maas International Competition, among many other awards and scholarships.

Whether you’re just starting out or preparing for an audition or competition, I’d love to help you develop both strong technique and a real emotional connection to your playing. My lessons are warm, thoughtful, and always tailored to you.

Have you ever wondered how some professional pianists can learn a new piece and have it memorised and performance ready in just 3 days when we can't even imagine being able to learn the notes in 3 months?

These people have found their practice system and perfected it to suit their learning style over many years and I can help you find and perfect your most optimal practicing method as well.

I’ve been teaching piano for over 10 years, working with children, teens, and adults - from absolute beginners to students preparing for conservatory entrance exams. As an aspiring concert pianist and piano professor, I bring both performance and real-life teaching experience into every lesson.

My lessons are very personalised, practical, and focused on long-term growth. I teach you how to practice, how to think, and how to enjoy the process of learning and being present in your practice sessions.

I care deeply about the health and well-being of every student. Having worked through my own physical and mental injuries at the piano, I emphasise injury-prevention, healthy technique, and mindful awareness of how you use your body and mind while playing. No one should feel pain or anxiety when playing music - this should be a space for creativity, and not stress. In addition, no one should feel ashamed or scared from their teacher because they didn't know something. We are here to learn, and it's no one's fault that you were never taught even the most basic of information. In our lessons, we try to create a healthy and comfortable learning environment so you can learn to the best of your abilities.

The students I teach include:

Self-taught adult learners who want a bit more personalised guidance and are feeling unsure if what they are doing is correct or not

Beginners who want to start with a strong foundation

Intermediate players who are feeling stuck and want to overcome any hurdles to their playing

Advanced students preparing for auditions, competitions or exams and need help transforming their pieces to sound extra special and to wow the jury members

Anyone else who simply loves the idea of playing music - anime, video game soundtracks, pop, or classical

My students have successfully entered music universities across Europe, built solid technique from scratch, and most importantly, fallen in love with music all over again.

What makes my teaching unique is that I don’t just show students what to play, I help them understand why. Many lessons focus only on the notes or on technical advice without any real connection to the music’s deeper meaning. In my approach, every technical decision supports the emotion, character, and storytelling behind the piece.

Musical expression is always the priority. Technique is a means, not an end, and it should always serve your artistic voice. Whether you're playing a Chopin Nocturne or your favourite anime soundtrack, I’ll help you explore the deeper purpose behind the music and develop the tools to express it.

If you’ve ever felt like piano lessons lacked emotion or explanation, my teaching will help you approach music with clarity and curiosity. My lessons will help build your understanding, technique, and your connection to the music.
